INAPRUBAHAN ng Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) ang pagbili ng US company Johnsonville International LLC sa mahigit kalahati ng outstanding stock sa local food processing company Frabelle Corporation.
Sa desisyon nito na may petsang Mayo 7, sinabi ng anti-trust watchdog na ang acquisition ay hindi magiging banta sa kumpetisyon sa Filipinas dahil ang production volume ng Frabelle ay ‘negligible’.
“Upon review of the findings and recommendation of the Mergers and Acquisitions Office and the Parties’ submissions, the Commission finds that the proposed acquisition by Johnsonville of shares in Frabelle will not likely result in substantial lessening of competition,” nakasaad sa desisyon ng PCC.
Ang desisyon ay nilagdaan nina PCC Chairman Arsenio Balisacan, at Commissioners Johannes Benjamin Bernabe, Amabelle Asuncion, at Macario De Claro, Jr.
Ang Johnsonville ay isang US company na may kinalaman sa manufacturing, packaging, at distribution ng fresh, chilled at frozen meat products, partikular ang sausages sa Philippine stores sa ilalim ng brand name na ‘Johnsonville’.
Samantala, ang Frabelle Corporation ay isang Philippine company na may kaugnayan sa manufacturing, packaging, at distribution ng fresh, chilled at frozen processed meat products, kabilang ang hotdogs at sausages sa ilalim ng brand name na ‘Frabelle’.
