UMAASA ang National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) na mangangalahati ang poverty rate ng bansa sa pagtatapos ng ter-mino ng kasalukuyang administrasyon sa 2022.
“This would be the first time in history that the poverty rate will be halved in just six years, a significant contribution and achievement of this admin-istration,” wika ni Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia.
Kaugnay ito sa ambisyosong target reduction ng poverty incidence sa 11 percent mula sa orihinal na 14 percent sa 2022, na inaprubahan sa naunang pagpupulong ng Development Budget Coordination Committee.
Batay sa istatistika, ang poverty incidence ng bansa ay bumaba sa 16.6 percent noong 2018, may average reduction na 2.23 percentage points kada taon, upang ang naunang target ay maging ‘achievable’ sa kalagitnaan ng 2022.
“The decline was also broad-based, as all regions, except Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao now the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or BARMM, recorded a decline in poverty incidence among population,” paliwanag ng NEDA.
Ayon sa NEDA, ang poverty reduction ay dahil sa tuloy-tuloy na paglago na lumikha ng trabaho para sa mahihirap, tumaas na sahod ng mahihirap na nakahigit sa inflation, pagpapatupad ng social programs tulad ng conditional and unconditional cash transfers at pensions, at population at family planning program,
“Inclusive, job-generating growth and better-targeted programs helped increase the incomes of the poor. For those in the bottom 30 percent of the population, mean per capita income increased by 31.9 percent, outpacing the income growth of those in the top 20 percent of households,” sabi ni Pernia.
