“This day marks the beginning of a dream becoming a reality,” Cong. Hernandez said, adding that the “groundbreaking ceremony symbolizes our shared vision and commitment to providing quality healthcare service for every Lagunense, especially to the vulnerable sector of the community.”

The lady legislator authored House Bill 9623, an act establishing a Level III General Hospital in Bay, Laguna to be known as the Laguna Regional Hospital.

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, had earlier requested the position of the Department of Health (DoH) on the Hernandez bill.

The DOH said that it poses no objection to the bill, provided the local government of Laguna donates the land where the infrastructure will be built.

Complying with this requirement, the Provincial Government of Laguna said it will donate more or less two hectares of land where the hospital will be built.

For its part, the Department of Budget Management (DBM) said that once the bill is enacted into law, the proposed hospital’s funding requirement shall be included by the DOH in its budget proposal.

Cong. Hernandez said that the hospital aims to strengthen and expand the public healthcare system in the Southern Tagalog region. “The hospital will serve as the apex or end referral hospital not only for Laguna but for the whole CALABARZON region.”
