PATATAASIN ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ng limang beses sa loob ng limang taon ang local production ng livestock at poultry na magiging pamana ng administrasyong Marcos.
Ayon kay DA Agriculture Undersecretary Deogracias Victor B. Savellano, bilang marching order mula kay Presidente Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr, na siya ring DA secretary, gagawin ng pamahalaan ang lahat ng paraan upang mapalakas ang livestock at poultry production para makamit ang food security,
Sasamahan ito ng pagpapataas sa kita ng mga magsasaka at pagpapababa sa presyo ng farm products habang tinitiyak ang availability ng pagkukunan ng protina ng mga consumer.
Sa Poultry Forum 2023, sinabi ni Savellano na ang food security ay national security, at ang pagpapataas sa local agricultural production ay gagawing prayoridad. Isasagawa ito sa pamamagitan ng isang consultative approach sa pamamahala.
“Recommendations from various sectors of our agriculture is currently being heard and studied on what, where, and how government actions are to be applied to boost our poultry sector,” sabi ni Savellano.
“We have started to meet with stakeholders to strategize a common direction and priorities in order to significantly increase our local food production, making it efficient, robust, and profitable for farmers.”
Ang kaparehong pagtiyak sa consultative governance ay inihayag ni Savellano sa naunang convention ng National Federation of Hog Farmers Inc.
“We will find ways to produce more to lessen importations.
By consulting with livestock associations on how much each sec- tor can produce, (we will know) the actual demand. It will be the consideration in determining the minimal quantity of imports,” aniya.
