HINDI dapat mag-alinlangan ang mga Filipino business leader na mag-invest sa turismo na hindi lamang nagsusulong ng biodiversity at sustainability, kundi nag-aangat din sa mga komunidad, ayon sa isang international environmental expert.
“Don’t be afraid of investment (in biodiversity). Investment is good (when it helps develop and sustain biodiversity). That is the only way to succeed in this limited planet,” wika ni Dr. Antonio de Abreu, isang biologist mula sa Portugal, sa kanyang talumpati sa International Conference on Biosphere and Sustainability sa Palawan kamakailan.
Isang environment expert ng United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme sa Portugal, tinukoy ni Abreu ang kakaibang lugar ng Filipinas sa biodiversity conservation kung saan ang bansa ay tahanan sa tatlong UNESCO-recognized Biosphere Reserves (BRs) na matatagpuan sa Palawan, Puerto Galera at Albay.
“These biodiversity-rich regions’ natural and cultural riches make them perfect for sustainable and Earth-friendly tourism that is economically sustainable and socially acceptable.”
