Walang ibang kultura sa Asia, in Europe, Ame­rica, o kahit pa sa Africa at Antarctica ang nagbibigay ng ganyan kalalim na paggalang sa nakatatanda — ang pagmamano. Kanang kamay ang ibinibigay na pagmamanuhan, dahil ang kaliwa ay tanda ng pagbibigay ng basbas sa humihingi nito at ang kaliwa naman ay rejection.

Sa paghingi ng blessings, sinasabi ng nakababata ba “Mano po” o ba ang ibig sabihin ay “Can I have your blessing?” Tipikal saan mang panig ng Pilipinas ang pagmamano. Ang “mano” ay mula sa Spanish word na kamay habang ang “po” ay bahagi naman ng kulturang Filipino na idinadagdag sa hulihan ng pangungusap bilang paggalang pa rin.

Ang Pilipinas, na geo­graphically ay mata­tagpuan sa Southeast Asia, ay sinakop ng ga Kastila sa halos 400 taon. Ang kulturang Filipino ay lubhang naimpluwensyahan ng Eastern at Western customs and traditions. Pagsilang pa lamag, tinuturuan na ang mga Filipinos na gumalang sa mga nakatatanda, hindi lamang sa mga miyembro ng pamilya kundi sa lahat ng nakatatanda sa komunidad, mga kaanak, at kaibigan ng kaanak.
