MAGSISILBING resource person si Chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra ng Games and Amusements Board (GAB) sa ‘Professional Sports in the Philippines’ sa ika-20 virtual session ng National Sports Summit ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sa Miyerkoles,  June 30.

Bilang GAB chief, tatalakayin ni Mitra ang mga direktiba at limitasyon ng ahensiya bilang nag-iisang government agency na may mandatong i-regulate at pangasiwaan ang professional sports and games, at maiwasan ang  illegal booking at gambling activities na may kinalaman sa anumang professional sports.

Bago ang kanyang kasalukuyang posisyon, si Mitra ay miyembro ng House of Representatives na kumakatawan sa ikalawang distrito ng Palawan sa tatlong magkakasunod na termino hanggang 2010 at nagsilbing gobernador ng Palawan hanggang 2014. Nagsilbi rin siyang Presidential Consultant para sa lalawigan mula 1998 hanggang 2000 sa ilalim ni dating Presidente Joseph Estrada.

“We would like to thank Chairman Mitra for accepting our invitation. This is a good opportunity for our participants to have an in-depth understanding of professional sports and how it is different from what we do here in PSC for amateur sports,” sabi ni PSC Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez.

Sa kasagsagan ng COVID-19 pandemic, ang PSC ay nakipagtulungan sa GAB kasama ang Department of Health (DOH) para sa tripartite agreement sa paglikha ng Joint Administrative Order No. 2020-0001 kung saan ang tatlong ahensiya ay bumuo ng guidelines sa pagpapatuloy ng pagsasanay ng Philippine Team sa ilalim ng community quarantine period.
