NASA 9.82 milyong Filipino ang nakaranas na matanggal sa trabaho, isang taon magmula nang ipatupad ang quarantine measures para mapigilan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19 sa bansa, ayon sa Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Sa isang virtual press conference, sinabi ni PSA chief Claire Dennis Mapa na sa March 2021 Labor Force Survey (LFS), isinama ng statistics agency ang katanungan kung ang isang indibidwal ay dumanas ng temporary o permanent lay-off mula Marso 2020 hanggang Marso 2021.
“Ayon sa datos, 9.82 million ang mga indibidwal na nagsabing sila ay nakaranas ng pansamantala o permanenteng pagkatanggal sa trabaho mula Marso 2020 hanggang Marso 2021,” ani Mapa.
Ang numero ay mas mataas kumpara sa 9.1 million adults na may edad 15 at pataas sa February LFS round.
“Broken down, of the 9.82 million who experienced being laid off, 83.3% or 8.18 million are currently employed or have their own businesses,” ayon sa PSA.
Samantala, 8.5% o 840,000 ang nananatiling walang trabaho habang 8.2% o 802,000 ang kasalukuyang wala sa labor force o hindi aktibong naghahanap ng trabaho.
