“Hi all. During my last match in Brisbane, I had a small problem on a muscle that as you know, made me worried. Once I got to Melbourne, I have had the chance to make an MRI and I have a micro tear on a muscle, not in the same part where I had the injury and that’s good news,” pahayag ni Nadal sa X.
“Right now, I am not ready to compete at the maximum level of excellence in 5 set matches. I’m flying back to Spain to see my doctor, get some treatment and rest.”
Sinabi pa ng 37-year-old Grand Slam champion sa X na nalulungkot siya na hindi makapaglalaro sa harap ng amazing Melbourne crowds, at pinasalamatan ang kanyang fans para sa kanilang suporta.
Ang 2024 Australian Open ay magsisimula sa Enero 14.
Nagwagi si Nadal, nakakolekta na ng 22 Grand Slam titles sa men’s singles, sa Melbourne noong 2009 at 2022.
Si Serbian rival Novak Djokovic ang record holder sa Melbourne, kung saan nakopo ng 36-year-old ang kanyang record-extending 10th Australian Open men’s singles title noong 2023.
