UMABOT sa $40 million na foreign portfolio investments o ‘hot money’ ang lumabas sa Filipinas noong Pe-brero, ayon sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Sa datos ng BSP, ang  $40-million net ‘hot money’ outflow noong Pebrero ay kabaligtaran ng net inflow na $98 million noong Enero.

Ang foreign portfolio investments ay tinatawag ding ‘hot money’ dahil sa kaluwagan ng pagpasok at paglabas ng pondo sa merkado.

Ang net outflow noong Pebrero ay resulta ng gross outflows na $1.38 billion, na lumagpas sa inflows na $1.34 billion.

“In particular, the gross outflows last month were larger compared to January’s level of $854 million or by 61.5%,” ayon sa BSP.

Sa datos ng central bank, ang US ay tumanggap ng 64.2% ng total outflows.

Ayon pa sa BSP, ang mga kaganapan noong Pebrero na maaaring nakaapekto sa inflow at outflow ng foreign portfolio investment ay ang  investor reaction sa local manufacturing data para sa Enero 2021, pagratipika sa Cor-porate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) bill,  paglagda sa Financial Institutions Strategic Transfer (FIST) Act, inaasahang pagdating ng COVID-19 vaccines sa bansa, at ang desisyon ng BSP na panatilihin ang policy rates.

Sinabi pa ng central bank na 39.8% ng naitalang investments ay sa Philippine Stock Exchange-listed securities, pangunahin ang mga bangko, property companies, holding firms, food, beverage at tobacco companies at tele-communication services firms.

Ang nalalabing  60.2% ay napunta sa investments sa peso government securities.

Ang top five investor countries para sa buwan, na may combined share na 83.1%, ay ang United Kingdom, Sin-gapore, United States, Malaysia at Hong Kong.

“Furthermore, the $40-million net outflows is a reversal of the $40 million net inflows recorded for the same period a year ago,” dagdag ng BSP.
