OCTOBER INFLATION BUMILIS SA 2.3%

NAITALA ang inflation rate ng bansa sa 2.3% noong Oktubre, ayon sa Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Sa isang press conference, sinabi ni National Statistician at PSA chief Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa na ang October inflation ay bumilis mula sa 1.9% noong Setyembre.

Ayon sa PSA, ang pagbilis ng overall inflation noong nakaraang buwan ay pangunahing naimpluwensiyahan ng mas mabilis na annual increment sa heavily-weighted food and non-alcoholic beverages na naitala sa 2.9% sa nasabing buwan mula 1.4% noong September 2024.

Nag-ambag din sa pagbilis ng inflation ang transport na may mas mabagal na year-on-year decrease na 2.1% sa naturang buwan mula 2.4% annual drop noong September 2024.

Ang top three commodity groups na nag-ambag sa October 2024 overall inflation ay ang food and non-alcoholic beverages na may 46.9% share o 1.1 percentage point; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels na may 22.0% share o 0.5 percentage point; at restaurants and accommodation services na may 16.1% share o 0.4 percentage point.

Sinabi ng PSA na pangunahing dahilan ng pagbilis ng food inflation ang mas mabilis na inflation rate ng bigas sa 9.6% noong October 2024 mula 5.7% sa naunang buwan.

Sinundan ito ng vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas at pulses na may mas mabagal na year-on-year decline na 9.2% noong Oktubre mula 15.8% annual decrease noong September 2024. Nag-ambag din ang 

index ng mais sa pagtaas dahil nagtala ito ng mas mabilis na annual increase na 9.7% sa nasabing buwan mula 6.9% noong September 2024.

Nagtala naman ng mas mababang inflation rates noong Oktubre ang mga sumusunod na commodity groups:
• Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 3.0% mula 3.1%
• Clothing and footwear, 2.7% mula 2.9%
• Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 2.4% mula 3.3%
• Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 2.4% mula 2.6%
• Information and communication, 0.2% mula 0.4%
• Recreation, sport and culture, 2.6% mula 2.8%
• Restaurants and accommodation services, 3.9% mula 4.1%
• Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 2.8% mula 2.9%.
