P300-M PINSALA NI ‘USMAN’ SA AGRI SECTOR

UMABOT sa P300 mil­yon ang pinsala na dinanas ng agricultural sector na dala ng Tropical Storm na si Usman ayon sa report ng Department of Agriculture (DA).

Mas napinsala ang mga stock na bigas na umabot sa P266.98 million at 7,496 metric tons pagdating sa volume ng production loss.

Tinatayang nasa 12,858 ektarya  at 9,622 rice farmers ang naapektuhan sa mga probinsiya ng Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, Sorsogon, at Samar.

“Damages and losses from Tropical Depression ‘Usman’ (now a Low Pressure Area) has increased to P299.44 million with an estimated volume of 9,606 metric tons and damaged agricultural areas at 13,862 hectares, affecting 11,231 farmers,” pahayag ng DA-Disaster Risk Reduction and Manage-ment (DRRM) Operations Center.

“The increase in overall values is attributed to the reports in rice and high-value crops in the provinces of Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon,” sabi pa ng DA-DRRM.

Umaabot naman sa P31.48 million ng high-value crops ang suma total na dinanas na pinsala ng agriculture sector, kasama rito ang fruit trees, assorted vegetables, at root crops.

“In terms of volume, 2,098 metric tons of high-value crops were destroyed in 441 hectares belonging to 1,333 farmers in Albay, Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Sorsogon,” ayon pa sa report.

Tinatayang P976,267 halaga  ng mais, katumbas ng 11 metric tons sa 563 ektarya na pag-aari ng 276 na magsasaka ang naapektuhan sa probinsiya ng Albay, Camarines Sur, at Masbate.

“The DA-DRRM Operations Center will continue to monitor and provide further updates on TD ‘Usman’,” ani pa.
