IPINALABAS ng Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ang JPY10 billion (tinatayang PHP4.7 billion) sa ilalim ng post-disaster standby loan phase 2 (PDSL 2) ng Tokyo sa Filipinas, na susuporta sa mga pamilyang Filipino na naapektuhan ng mga bagyong Quinta, Rolly, at Ulysses.
Ang halaga ay bahagi ng JPY50-billion loan na ipinagkaloob noong Sept. 15, 2020 sa Filipinas para ma-katulong na matiyak na may magagamit na contingency funds para sa post-disaster recovery ng bansa.
“This loan assistance from Japan is in line with the commitment made by Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide with President Rodrigo Duterte during their recent summit telephone talk on December 14, 2020,” pahayag ng Japanese Embassy sa Manila.
“Conveying his message of sympathies to the Filipino people in these difficult times, Prime Minister Suga reaf-firmed Japan’s resolve to help the Philippines make a strong rebound both from the pandemic and natural disasters,” dagdag pa nito.
Naniniwala ang Embassy na ang PDSL 2, kasama ang iba pang nagpapatuloy na ayuda mula sa Japan, ay magiging instrumento para sa economic recovery ng Filipinas tungo sa sustained long-term development.
Ang first tranche ng PDSL 2 disbursement, na nagkakahalagang JPY10 billion, ay isinagawa noong October 2020 upang suportahan ang economic recovery ng bansa mula sa COVID-19. PNA
