Inaasahan ang mas mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng food safety monitoring sa mga imported na produkto ng agrikultura ng Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) ng Department of Agriculture (DA) matapos itong lumagda ng Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sa FMC Research Solutions Inc. na may specialization sa komprehensibong pagsubaybay sa ligtas na pagpasok ng mga inaangkat na food items sa bansa.
“It aims to initiate a pilot test program aimed at improving the safety and quality of imported agricultural products.The partnership between DA-BPI and FMC Research seeks to leverage innovative technology to enhance inspection processes and ensure compliance with food safety regulations to ensure the health of Filipino consumers,” ang nakasaad sa isang statement na inilabas ng DA.
Ang BPI ay may mandato na magpapatupad ng food safety at phytosanitary regulations sa bansa at mag issue ng clearance bago ang pag- aangkat ng Pilipinas ng mga produkto mg agrikultura upang maproteksyonan ang kalusugan ng consumers.
Ayon kay BPI Director Gerald Glenn Panganiban, kritikal ang inisyatibo upang maiwasan ang pagpasok ng mga produktong agrikultura na hindi ligtas kainin at pagkalat ng anumang sakit dulot ng mga hayop o meat products na inaangkat mula sa ibang bansa.
Paliwanag ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr. ang naturang MOU ay bahagi ng mga isinasagawang hakbang sa modernisasyon ng Kagawaran at .pag-digitize nito at streamlining functions ng kanyang tanggapan at mga attached agencies nito.
“We’re continuously looking at technological solutions to boost our inspection and quarantine capabilities, especially with the recent enactment of the Anti-Agricultural Sabotage Act that gave DA expanded powers to combat the smuggling of agricultural products,” sabi ni Panganiban.
“With this agreement, we will gain additional verification points for our agricultural product supply. This initiative will complement the existing tools of BPI, allowing us to be more proactive in ensuring the availability of safe, pest-free, and disease-free agricultural commodities,” sabi niya.

Sa ilalim ng naturang MOU, ang FMC Research ay magsasagawa ng pilot testing program na wala umanong magiging karagdagang gastos mula sa pamahalaan

Our proposed solution ensures comprehensive coverage to enhance the monitoring and audit functions of regulatory agencies by providing the needed reports and business analytics to aid the Bureau of Plant Industry,” aniyo.
