DAHIL inaasahan na ang kabataan ang susunod na lider, isinagawa ng 81st Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army katuwang ang provincial government ng La Union ang Peace-Building ang Provincial Youth Summit sa San Luis, Del Mar, Brgy. Baccuit Norte, Bawang Agosto 19.
Layunin nito na mailayo sa panghihiyakayat ng mga makakaliwang grupo gaya sa New People’s Army ang mga kabataan habang ang tema ng summit ay “Strengthening and Capacitating the Youth in Advocatiing Peace and Development as Future Leaders in their Generation.”
Ayon kay Lt. Col Rodrigo A. Mariñas JR INF (GSC), Commanding Officer ng 81IB PA, 50 miyembro ng Sangguniang Kabataan ang dumalo kung saan nakinabang sa itinurong Drug Addiction Awareness; Role of the Youth in Nation-building; Kabataan Kontra sa Droga at Terorismo; Orientation on the Recruitment of the Communist Terrorist Groups among the Youth and Student Sector; at Values Formation, na tinalakay din sa Culture of Peace and Strengthening the Youth Spirit.
Ilang rebel returnees din ang nagsalita at nagbigay ng testimonya kung gaano kahirap ang buhay sa sinamahan nilang “organisasyon” na bandang huli ay naunawaan nilang nalinlang lamang sila sa pagsama sa komunismo.
Dagdag pa ni Mariñas na mahalagang mailayo ang kabataan sa panlilinlang ng mga makakaliwang grupo at makabubuting ituro na lamang sa kanila ang pagsusulong sa kapayapaan na huhulma sa kanila para maging lider sa mga susunod na henerasyon.
“The youth, indeed, has a lot to do for the betterment of our future. Let us invest more in empowering and motivating them in doing their share for nation-building. Thus, this activity is the contribution of the Philippine Army, together with other government agencies, in preparing our youth to be the agents of change and advocates of peace and progress for the sake of our nation, ” ayon pa kay Mariñas.
Sa panig naman ni Maj. Gen. Alfredo V. Rosario Jr., Commander of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, kanyang idiniin ang kahalagahan ng pagkilala sa kakayahan ng mga kabataan na may mapalalakas pa kapag nabigyan ng tamang impormasyon.
