INIIMBESTIGAHAN na ng pamahalaan ang natagpuang umano’y oil exploring device na may Chinese characters sa Scarborough Shoal, na nasa loob ng exclusive economic zone ng bansa.
Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque na hindi posible ang oil exploration sa lugar dahil wala namang naispatang foreign exploration ships sa lugar.
“We’re really investigating why such equipment was found. But you know, without the boat, that equipment can’t be used. So, what we’re looking at is if there were really such vessels sailing there for the purpose of oil exploration,” ayon kay Roque.
Wala rin aniyang barko na ginagamit para sa exploration purposes na nakita sa isla.
“So for now, we’re confident that there is no exploration happening there in Scarborough and if there is and if we can verify it, then we will file or do the corresponding action,” ayon kay Roque.
Magugunitang ang Filipino fishermen ang nakakita sa exploration device na nasa gitna ng karagatan na pinaniniwalaang ocean bottom seismometer na may tatak na Chinese character.
Sa tulong ng non-government organizations, ang device ay itinurn over sa Philippine Navy.
Halos ang kabuuan ng South China Sea maging ang mga lugar na saklaw ng EEZ ng mga kalapit bansa, kabilang na ang Pilipinss, ay inaangkin ng China.
