KAMAKAILAN ay inanunsiyo ng COVID-19 Interagency Task Force (IATF) ang desisyon ukol sa uri ng lockdown sa Metro Manila kaugnay ng nakatakdang pagtatapos ng bisa ng ECQ noong ika-20 ng Agosto.

Ayon kay Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, ibinaba sa modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) ang restriksiyon sa Metro Manila at Laguna simula ika-21 ng Agosto hanggang sa katapusan ng buwan. Ang probinsya ng Bataan ay kabilang din sa isasailalim sa MECQ ngunit ito ay magsisimula sa ika-23 ng Agosto at nakatakdang magtapos sa katapusan din ng buwan.

Tiyak na matindi na naman ang negatibong epekto nito sa ating ekonomiya. Nauna nang ipinahayag ni Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Chua na hindi bababa sa P150 bilyon kada linggo ang maaaring mawala sa ating ekonomiya sa pagpapatupad ng ECQ at MECQ. Ang halagang ito ay masyadong malaking kawalan para sa isang umuunlad na bansa gaya ng Pilipinas.

Kaugnay nito, hinihikayat ni dating Senador Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos ang pamahalaan na pababain ang restriksiyon para sa mga indibidwal na kumpleto na ang bakuna upang makatulong ang mga ito sa pagpapatuloy ng takbo ng ekonomiya. Kailangan lamang masiguro na susunod ang mga ito sa mga panuntunang pangkalusugan at pangkaligtasan na ipinatutupad ng pamahalaan. Bukod sa pagkakaroon ng pagkakataon na patuloy na makapagtrabaho sa kabila ng pagpapatupad ng MECQ, magiging kabawasan din ito sa negatibong epekto ng lockdown sa ekonomiya.

Ayon kay National Task Force Against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon, hindi bababa sa 41% ng mga mamamayan sa NCR na kwalipikadong mabigyan ng bakuna ang kumpleto na sa dosis nito. Naniniwala si Dizon na malaki ang posibilidad na maaabot ang target na 50% sa pagtatapos ng buwan ng Agosto. Nasa 3.2 milyong bakuna na ang kabuuang bilang ng naipamahagi sa rehiyon ngayong buwan. Kung ang 41% na kumpleto sa bakuna ay hahayaang magtrabaho sa kabila ng pagpapatupad ng MECQ, malaking tulong ito sa ekonomiya.

Habang patuloy ang pagtaas ng kaso ng COVID-19 sa bansa bilang resulta ng Delta variant, isang uri na naman ng virus nito ang tila kailangang paghandaan ng bansa. Bagaman umuugong ang balita na hindi epektibo ang kasalukuyang mga bakuna bilang panlaban sa Lambda variant, nilinaw naman ng WHO na kinakailangan pa ng mas maraming pagsusuri ukol dito.

Ang bantang ito ng Lambda variant at ang kasalukuyang kumakalat na Delta variant ay panibagong hamon na naman sa ating bansa. Kailangang muling pag-aralan ng pamahalaan ang kasalukuyan nitong istratehiya. Kung pati ang mga indibidwal na kumpleto sa bakuna ay paghihigpitan ng pamahalaan, tila balewala ang pagpapabakuna ng mga ito. Bilang pangmatagalang solusyon, kinakailangang mas paigtingin pa ng pamahalaan ang pamamahagi ng bakuna upang mas marami ang maging protektado laban sa COVID-19.

Ayon sa DOH, halos 13 milyong indibidwal pa lamang ang kumpleto sa bakuna. Malayo pa ito sa target na higit 70 milyon sa pagtatapos ng taon upang makamit ang herd immunity.

Kung mas dadami pa ang protektado, mas magiging ligtas at madali para sa iba’t ibang sektor ng ekonomiya ang magpatuloy sa operasyon. Ito ay magbibigay-daan sa muling pagbangon ng ekonomiya, at hindi magtatagal ay muli itong magsisimula sa paglago sa kabila ng pandemyang COVID-19.
