TATALAKAYIN ni Philippine swimming icon Akiko Thomson-Guevara ang “Role of Philippine Olympians in furthering Philippine Sports” sa session 9 ng National Sports Summit 2021 ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ngayong Miyerkoles.
Bibigyang-diin ng three-time Olympian at eight-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist ang nagpapatuloy na pag-sisikap ng Philippine Olympians Association, isang organisasyon na itinatag noong 2002, na makapagbigay ng oportunidad sa pamamagitan ng sports sa mga kabataang Filipino.
Ibabahagi rin ni Thomson-Guevara, nahalal na presidente ng organisasyon na kinabibilangan ng mga kapwa niya Olympians at pinamumunuan ito magmula noong 2015, “how to optimize asset of the Filipino Olympian to play a meaningful role in the realm of Philippine sports.”
“Her stellar career as part of the Miracle of 1991 and as an Olympian, and further using her platform as the head of their organization will truly inspire our participants in the pursuit of improving Philippine sports,” wika ni PSC Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez.
Ang swimming icon ay may kasaysayan na sa pagsusulong ng Philippine sports at Olympism sa pamamagitan ng paglahok bilang isang volunteer sa Athens Summer Olympic Games noong 2004 at pag-sisilbi bilang assistant coach ng national swimming team sa 1997 SEA Games at 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games.
Nagsilbi rin siya bilang isa sa mga commissioner ng PSC mula 2010 hanggang 2016. CLYDE MARIANO
