HINIKAYAT ni economist at dating Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Cielito Habito ang pamahalaan na palakasin ang sektor ng agrikultura para matugunan ang major economic concerns sa kabila ng mas mabilis kaysa inaasahang gross domestic product growth noong 2021.
Ang GDP ng bansa ay lumago ng 5.6 percent noong nakaraang taon, kung saan nahigitan nito ang government target na 5 hanggag 5.5 percent.
“Agriculture could have contributed more if ‘rational policies’ are in place,” pahayag ni Habito sa ANC.
“It would have contributed even more positively to that bottomline. Agriculture remains a very resilient and very strong sector but we have to do something about that African Swine Fever that has also led to that higher inflation,” dagdag pa niya.
Ang inflation ay mas mataas sa government target na 2 hanggang 4 percent sa maraming bahagi ng 2021 dahil sa mataas na presyo ng karne, lalo na ang baboy dahil sa African Swine Fever.
Ang full year inflation ay nasa 4.5 percent, lubhang mataas kumpara sa 2.6 percent noong 2020.
