NAKAKUHA ang Filipinas ng $900 million (₱43.67 billion) na bagong pondo mula sa World Bank at sa Asian Development Bank para sa pagbili ng mga bakuna laban sa COVID-19 at sa pagtugon sa health crisis.

Sa isang statement, sinabi ng World Bank na inaprubahan ng board of executive directors nito ang $500 million (₱24.26 billion) loan upang tulungan ang pamahalaan sa vaccine purchase at rollout nito.

“Inclusive deployment of vaccines in line with the World Health Organization Fair Allocation Framework is critical for preventing grave illness and deaths from COVID-19, opening the economy in earnest, ensuring a resilient recovery, and restoring jobs and incomes,” pahayag ni Ndiamé Diop, World Bank Country Director for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand.

Sinabi ng Washington-based institution na ang naturang pondo ay susuporta rin sa public health measures “until a majority of the population has been vaccinated or is deemed safe based on global evidence.”

Sa hiwalay na statement, sinabi ng ADB na ang Filipinas ang unang tatanggap ng funding support sa ilalim ng Asia Pacific Vaccine Access Facility or APVAX nito.

Ayon sa regional lender, inaprubahan nito ang $400 million ( ₱19.4 billion) loan upang makatulong sa pagbili ng bansa ng mga bakuna.

“ADB’s support will boost the Philippine government’s urgent efforts to secure and deploy COVID-19 vaccines for all Filipinos, especially those who are vulnerable, such as frontline workers, the elderly, and poor and marginalized populations, as well as those at increased risk of severe illness,” pahayag ni ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa.
