On Wednesday, June 19, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go personally provided assistance to beneficiaries in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.
In his speech, Go, known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to the poor, underscored the importance of continued government support for Filipinos, particularly those belonging in vulnerable sectors.
“Ako po’y hindi politiko. Magtatrabaho lang po ako para sa Pilipino sa abot ng aking makakaya. At kahit saang sulok kayo ng Pilipinas pupuntahan ko kayo basta kaya po ng aking katawan at panahon,” he affirmed.
“Iyan naman po ang ipinangako ko sa inyo, magseserbisyo po ako dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at naniniwala ako na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo sa Diyos,” Go expressed.
Go and his Malasakit Team distributed grocery packs, snacks, vitamins, masks, shirts, bags, basketballs, and volleyball to 3,166 beneficiaries. Select recipients also received bikes, mobile phones, shoes, and watches.
Furthermore, through the collaborative efforts of Senator Go, concerned agencies and the local officials led by Mayor Juanito Inojales, the qualified beneficiaries received financial support from the government.
The Senator then praised the efforts of local officials, led by Cong. Nelson Dayanghirang, Cong. Cheeno Alamario, Former Cong. Mayo Almario, Mayor Juanito Inojales, Board Member Daud Linsag, Board Member Rotchie Ravelo, Councilors, and Barangay Captains, among others, for their commitment to ensuring their constituents are well-supported.
Mayor Angel Go of San Isidro and Mayor Ian Larcia of Banaybanay, Davao Oriental were also present during the said initiative. Go then encouraged them to sustain their efforts for the continued growth and development of Governor Generoso and the entire province of Davao Oriental.
As the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go offered additional help to the residents needing medical assistance through the Malasakit Center in the province located at the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center in Mati City.
Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. According to the Department of Health, 165 operational centers have helped more than ten million Filipinos nationwide.
Aside from giving aid, the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography also proudly mentioned that one of his key advocacies is the establishment of more Super Health Centers nationwide. He highlighted the critical role of Super Health Centers in advancing the early detection of diseases through accessible basic health services at the community level.
Through the concerted efforts of Go, fellow lawmakers, the DOH led by Secretary Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa, and local government units, adequate funding was allocated for establishing more than 700 Super Health Centers nationwide, including 14 in the province of Davao Oriental.
Go then emphasized the significance of the enactment of RA 11959, also known as the Regional Specialty Centers Act, in which he was a principal sponsor and co-author in the Senate. He underscored the importance of this legislation as a significant step forward in improving the availability of specialized medical care in all regions.
On the same day, Go attended the Philippine Association of Local Government Accountants (PHALGA) 16th Mindanao Geographical Conference with President Smith Valdez as a Keynote Speaker, held at A5 TechnoPark Convention Center in Mati City.
