ANG first-time director na si RC delos Reyes is directing Mary, Marry Me, featuring Toni and Alex 
Gonzaga and Sam Milby.
Nang tanungin si Direk Paul Soriano kung bakit hindi niya dini-direk ang kanyang misis, ito raw kasi ang nagdi-direk sa kanya.
“We’re married na, e,” she opined. “So, very personal na ‘yung relationship namin, no need to be anymore director/actress. Okay na iyan, producer na lang ako, behind the scenes na lang ako.”
Ang Ten17P at TinCan Productions ang sister companies na nag-produce ng Mary, Marry Me, which is an official entry at the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival that’s slated to open on December 25.
Ten17P belongs to Paul, while TinCan is ably headed by Toni.
“So ‘yung brand ng films niya ‘yung mga light, feel-good, family-themed, rom-com. Yung Ten17, ‘di ba mas medyo seryoso.”
It will be remembered that Paul directed Toni in the movie A Journey Home wayback in 2009.
They were not married then.
“Dating-dating lang kami noon, boyfriend-girlfriend lang kami noon.”
Hindi naman daw ibig sabihin ay hindi na niya ididirehe si Toni pero sa klase ng pelikulang gustong gawin nito sa ngayon, makabubuti raw na producer na lang siya. “And there are a lot of other directors out there that she wants to work with also. And we wanna make sure that we also keep our relationship, husband and wife, wala masyado working relationship.”
Going back to the movie, maganda raw ang chemistry ng magkapatid sa pelikula.
Anyway, last year, at the MMFF 2017, Paul’s film Siargao was one of the most awarded film. Nagwagi ito bilang 2nd Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Original Theme Song, Best Editing, at Best Supporting Actress (Jasmine Curtis Smith). Out of 12 nominations, it won 7.
It also ranked third at the box-office.
Ano ang expectations nila sa Mary, Marry Me?
“For me naman, what’s important is the people can enjoy the film. ‘Yung mga awards naman is bonus ‘yun, bonus, ‘di ba?” Direk Paul opined. “Of course, I won’t deny, ang sarap din to win awards, ‘di ba?
“But at the end of the day, we’re very proud of the film, Toni’s very proud of the film, and we’re excited to be again of the Metro Manila Film Festival.”
Sa ngayon, wala pa raw siyang follow-up movie.
“So after First Love,” he asseverated, “I’m hoping to do something different, maybe something… I’m looking at the lines of a horror-suspense.”
Ang gustung-gusto raw niyang idirek sa susunod niyang pelikula ay si Piolo Pascual.
Paul, Piolo, and Lav Diaz were the producers of the indie film Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis last 2016 that was directed by Lav Diaz and starred in by Piolo and John Lloyd Cruz.
So far, hindi pa raw niya nagiging artista si Piolo.
Kailangan raw nilang maghanap ng tamang kuwento. Hopefully next year, baka makahanap na sila ng tamang concept.
“He’s already worked with Toni,” he quipped. “May Home Sweetie Home sila, may Starting Over, may Last Night. So ako naman sabi ko, ‘Let me direct you naman.’
“Very open naman siya, we just said, ‘Let’s just find the right story, let’s find the right script.”
Sa mga babaeng artista, gusto niyang maidirek si Ms. Judy Ann Santos.
“I’ve done commercials with her,” he averred, “but iba ang pelikula, e. And I know she’s a fantastic actress.”
Why not do a movie with the two of them headlining it?
“I would love that, it’s great you suggested that. One great film.”
