MATAPOS na i-trade si Baser Amer, plano ngayon ni Meralco coach Norman Black na ilipat si Chris Newsome sa point guard spot.
Aminado si Black na hindi madali ang desisyon na ipamigay si Amer, ang kanilang starting point guard na naging instrumento sa lahat ng tatlong in finals runs ng Bolts.
“We’ve been together for five years and we’ve made a good run together so it’s really an emotional moment for me trading him,” pahayag ni Black sa PBA website.
Bilang kapalit ni Amer ay kinuha ng Meralco si Mac Belo mula sa Blackwater, na magiging bahagi ng front court ng Bolts.
“We want to upgrade our front court and unload extra players in the backcourt because we have a lot of point guards in the team,” ani Black.
Ayon pa kay Black, bibigyan niya rin ng bagong papel si Newsome, ang kanilang pinaka-consistent na player sa katatapos na PBA Philippine Cup Bubble.
“I think Newsome can be a good point guard since we always get the ball in his hands, plus he’s our leader in assists last conference,” aniya.
May average na 14.45 points per game, si Newsome ay top scorer ng Meralco. Nangunguna rin siya sa assists na may 4.36 assists per game.
