MULING tumulak patungong Estados Unidos si Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. kahapon para dumalo sa trilateral summit kasama ang Japan at US kung saan inaasahan na sentro ng pag- uusap ang economic and defense at maritime cooperation ng mga nabanggit na bansa.
“It is a historic meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and it is aimed at advancing trilateral cooperation between our three countries, which have long enjoyed warm and friendly relations, and robust cooperation,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos sa kanyang departure speech.
“Today, I leave for Washington, DC to attend the first Philippines -US-Japan Trilateral Summit. During this summit,
I will underscore the importance of enhancing our economic cooperation, with a view of promoting economic resilience and of course, security,” anang Pangulo.
Pagpapatuloy rin ng pulong sa kanyang mga layunin na mapatatag ang ugnayan sa labas ng bansa gaya sa nakalipas na pulong kina Prime Minister Kishida at US Vice President Kamala Harris noong September 2023 sa Jakarta, Indonesia, gayundin sa trilateral meetings sa ibat foreign ministers at sa national security advisers ng tatlong bansa.
Sa trilateral summit, pag-uusapan ang kahalagahan ng pinahusay na economic cooperation ng Philippines kasama ang Japan at Estados Unidos.
“I intend to explore ways of advancing cooperation, especially in the areas of critical infrastructure, semiconductors, digitalization and cybersecurity, critical minerals, renewable energy, as well as defense and maritime cooperation,” dagdag pa ni Pangulong Marcos
“It is my intention also to exchange views with my U.S. and Japanese counterparts on various regional security issues of mutual concern, while continuing to reiterate the importance of upholding the rule of law and preserving the rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region,” anang Pangulo.
Lumipad ang PR 001 na sinakyan ng Pangulo kasama ang kanyang delegasyon dakong 2:56 ng hapon.
Muling itinalaga ng Pangulo si Vice-President Sara Duterte bilang caretaker ng bansa, at katuwang sina Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin at Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III. EVELYN QUIROZ
