NANANATILING positibo ang pagtaya sa exports revenues ng bansa sa harap ng inaasahang paglobo ng demand sa second half ng 2018, ayon sa Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (Philexport), ang umbrella organization ng mga local exporter.
Sinabi ni Philexport President Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr. na kumpiyansa ang kanyang grupo na maaabot ng kanilang sektor ang 5-percent growth target nito sa revenues sa pagtatapos ng taon.
“Well, it [second semester] will be better than the first half because it is approaching the Christmas season so we expect it will be good,” wika ni Ortiz-Luis.
“There are some improvements in our markets. Electronics seems to be doing well. In agriculture, it’s coconut [that is growing], the rest are going down. We hope that mineral products should contribute also,” dagdag pa niya.
Para sa first half ng 2018, iniulat ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) ang 3.8 porsiyentong pagbaba sa kita ng merchandise exports sa USD32.73 billion mula sa USD34.04 billion sa kaparehong panahon noong 2017.
Naniniwala si Ortiz-Luis na palalakasin ng services sector ang export revenues ngayong taon.
Aniya, plano ngayon ng mga exporter na i-diversify ang kanilang mga merkado bukod sa tradisyunal na Philippine export destinations tulad ng Japan, United States, at China.
“The industry players are now looking to ASEAN to take full advantage of existing free trade agreements with neighbors. Apart from that, they are also setting their sights on the BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa,” dagdag pa niya. PNA
