NAGKAROON ng kasunduan ang Pilipinas at United States na magbibigay-daan para sa pagpa- sok ng mas maraming pinya at mangga sa US, ayon sa Department of Agriculture (DA).

Sinabi ng DA na nagkasundo ang Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) nito at ang US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) sa isang virtual meeting noong nakaraang August 12.

Ayon kay Agriculture Secretary William Dar., ang kasunduan ay magbibigay-daan para madagdagan ang pineapple exports ng bansa at maipagpatuloy ang shipments ng mangga sa US sa pamamagitan ng mga karagdagang ports of entry.

“Expanding the export market of Philippine pineapples and mangoes in the US and other countries will not only enhance our national economy, but more importantly, provide increased incomes to thousands of farmers and their families in pineapple- and mango-producing provinces nationwide,” sabi ni Dar.

“Further, it is a realization of one of the key strategies under our ‘OneDA Reform Agenda’ to transform Philippine agriculture, that is, ‘Global Trade, Export Development and Promotion,’ with focus on high-value crops,” dagdag ng DA chief.

“On behalf of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Filipino farmers, we, therefore, thank the officials of the USDA-APHIS and our DA-BPI for mutually resolving issues that would further increase trade between our two countries.”

Ang Pilipinas ay kasalukuyang nag-e-export ng sariwang pinya sa US sa pamamagitan ng Guam, ng Commonwealth of Marianas Island, at ng  North Atlantic regions. Mula 2013 hanggang July 15, 2021, ang exports ay umabot lamang sa 346,190 kilograms.

“The country previously exported fresh mangoes to the US, from 2005 to 2008, totaling 386,099 kg, all produced in Guimaras Island,” ayon pa sa DA.

Maaari nang magsimula ang Pilipinas na mag-export ng pinya sa US markets bago matapos ang taon.
