“KABABAIHAN sa Sentro” by Kontemporaryo opens at ARTablado ARTablado opened its gallery to seven Kontemporaryo Artists in celebration of Women’s Month.
Seven women artists who are educators and art exhibit organizers shared to the public their paintings and creation of arts on women, by women, for women. These women artists vowed to showcase their artworks for ARTablado and Kontemporaryo.
Each artwork reveals high regard for women, the determination to put women at the center only proves the true grit of each artist.
Kontemporaryo is an art group of women educators with different advocacies. Each artist has a compelling story to tell and transform these narratives to painting. Each story is as unique as their representation in life, may not be ideal or perfect but at least, the viewing public may learn something from their works and perspectives.
These women artist have struggled in different stages of their lives as daughters, sisters, mothers and friends. Challenges were met and trounced. Inequality was opposed to, paving the way for remarkable achievements in their chosen field. Experiences taught them many valuable lessons in life.
The battle cry to achieve gender equality is true among these seven artists, namely: Arlene De Castro-Añonuevo, Mary Rajelyn Busmente, Cynthia Leyson, Dara Solevilla, Sandra Torrijos, Bernadette Solina-Wolf and Riza Zuniga.
Since they are all educators, they help sustain gender equality by being mentors, coaches and advocates for lifting the spirit of fellow women artists.
During the opening of the exhibit, other male artists were very vocal about women’s role in our culture and arts. They openly supported the women’s month celebration like Rafael “Popoy” Cusi, AL Perez, Allanrey “Migz” Salazar, and Jes Evangelista. “Boundless” is the central theme of ARTablado this year.
Kontemporaryo produced “Kababaihan sa Sentro.” The art exhibit runs until March 31, 2022 at Level 3 Robinsons Galleria.
