NAGBABALA Si Philippine National Police (PNP) Director-General Oscar Albayalde kamakailan sa mga tiwaling mangangalakal na hindi sila tatantanan ng gobyerno hanggang sa mahinto ang kanilang gawain.
“Upon the guidance of President Duterte as embodied in the SONA, we will aggressively support concerned government agencies, in waging war against unscrupulous traders who willfully manipulate market forces…” pahayag niya.
“These acts go beyond the economic issue of fair trade. This is a matter of food security that the state is duty-bound to protect and defend,” pagdidiin pa ng police director-general
Sa kanyang State of the Nation Address noong nakaraang linggo, sinabi ni Presidente Duterte na ang rice cartel at kanilang protector ay mahaharap sa matinding parusa ng bansa kapag nagpatuloy pa sila sa kanilang pamamaraan.
Inatasan ni Albayalde ang lahat ng PNP offices na repasuhin ang kasalukuyang operational plans, directives, and issuances sa Department of Agriculture (DA) at National Food Authority (NFA).
“Identify possible areas or rooms for improvement where we can strengthen law enforcement against rice smuggling, hoarding, pilferage, profiteering and illegal trade practices involving rice and basic commodities,” sabi niya.
“The PNP will work with all concerned agencies like the NBI-DOJ, Philippine Competition Commission, and others on how best government can address the economic woes suffered by the poor due to the unmitigated greed of rice cartels and smugglers,” dagdag pa ni Albayalde.
Nanawagan pa si Albayalde sa gobyerno para magsagawa ng holistic approach para sa solusyon sa problema.
“There should be a ‘whole-of-government approach’ to decisively address this chronic economic sabotage being sustained by these wealthy criminals whose protectors might be in the high places.”
