INATASAN ngayon ni Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Guillermo Eleazar ang lahat ng unit at area commanders na simulan nang paghandaan ang seguridad para sa mapayapa, tapat at maayos na pagdaraos ng national at local elections sa Mayo ng susunod na taon.
Ayon kay Eleazar, ang maagang paghahanda sa seguridad ay napatunayang epektibo para pigilan ang mga karahasan at iba pang aktibidad na maglalagay sa integridad ng Pambansa at Lokal na Halalan sa kompromiso.
“Kasabay ng mainit na usapan sa eleksyon sa susunod na taon, inatasan ko na ang lahat ng ating area commanders na umpisahan na ang paghahanda upang matiyak ang malinis at maayos na halalan sa ating bansa,” paliwanag pa ng heneral
Dagdag pa niya, “Kasama sa paghahanda na dapat tutukan ng ating mga kapulisan ay ang monitoring at accounting hindi lamang ng mga private armed groups kung hindi pati na rin ang mga loose firearms na maaring gamitin sa pananakot at pagsabotahe upang impluwernsyahan ang resulta ng halalan.”
Bunsod ng nasabing direktiba , inatasan din ang PNP intellegence community at area commanders na bantayan at repasuhin ang mga napaso nang lisensya ng mga baril at iba pang loose firearms sa kani-kanilang AOR.
Bukod dito ay pinag-aaralan na ng PNP ang mga area na maaring maging isang hot spot o area of immediate concerns kung kaya’t kaya tutukan na ang presensya ng mga armadong grupo base sa datos mula sa mga nakalipas na halalan.
Sinabi pa ni Eleazar na sisimulan na rin nilang makipag-ugnayan sa Armed Forces of the Philippines para sa seguridad ng halalan sa mga lugar na may mataas na presensya ng mga armadong grupo, lalong lalo na ng CPP-NPA-NDF.
Ang CPP-NPA-NDF ang siyang itinuturong nasa likod ng pangingikil ng malaking halaga kapalit ang pagkakaroon ng access sa mga lugar kung saan sila nago-operate. Malaking bulto ng mga nakokolekta nila ay nanggagaling sa mga pulitiko sa pamamagitan ng permit to campaign na nagbibigay katiyakan sa mga ito na hindi sila gagalawin.
“We have to make sure that they would be denied of this illegal activity so it is really important that we start early to study and anticipate any threat to the elections next year,” ani PGen Eleazar.
