NALAMPASAN ng passenger volume sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport ang pre-pandemic levels noong 2023 kasunod ng pagluluwag sa COVID-19 restrictions.

Ayon sa Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), nakapagtala ito ng 279,953 flights, tumaas ng 26 percent mula sa 221,595 noong nakaraang taon at mas mataas ng 3 percent kumpara sa 271,535 noong 2019.

Ang bilang ay mas mataas din sa 271,535 registered flights noong 2019.

“We are encouraged by the renewed confidence in air travel, reaffirming our collective efforts to steer the aviation sector back to pre-pandemic levels. This is a significant step towards normalcy in global air travel,” wika ni MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines.

Ang NAIA ay humawak ng  45,385,987 pasahero noong nakaraang taon, mas mataas ng 47 percent kumpara noong 2022.

Sinabi ni Ines na ang domestic travel restrictions ay niluwagan bago pa man binuksan ang  international border controls, na nagpalakas sa domestic tourism.

“With global borders opening up, international travel is rebounding, and it’s only a matter of time before we reach pre-pandemic levels for international flights and passengers,” sabi ni Ines said.  May  25,779 flights ang hinawakan ng NIA noong Disyembre, na pinakamarami noong nakaraang taon, dahil nagsidatingan ang locals, OFWs, at foreigners noong holiday season.
