TULOY ang suporta ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sa Philippine team sa Tokyo Paralympics sa kabila ng malaking dagok sa kampanya nito hindi pa man nagsisimula ang quadrennial Games.
Ilang miyembro ng delegasyon, kabilang ang isang para-athlete, ilang coach at opisyal ang nagpositibo sa COVID-19.
“The PSC, as always, will continue to support our delegation to the Tokyo Olympics. The PSC team included in the secretariat led by Commissioner Arnold Agustin remains intact and will continue to give support where we can,” sabi ni PSC Chief of Staff Marc Velasco.
Ang mga nagnegatibo sa COVID-19 at pinayagan nang umalis ay dumating na sa Tokyo bago ang opening ceremonies ngayong Martes.
Subalit sinabi ni Velasco na patuloy na babantayan ng PSC ang health status ng Philippine team.
“Team physician and Covid liaison officer Dra. Janis De Vera has assured us that we will continue to monitor the remaining delegation members, making sure that we will comply with the Tokyo Paralympics playbook,” ani Velasco.
Samantala, nananatiling kumpiyansa si Philippine Paralympic Committee president Mike Barredo sa tsansa ng national team sa kabila na nabawasan ito ng isa.
“Despite this setback, we are confident that our athletes will give their best in the pursuit of their Paralympic dreams and to bring honor and glory to our country,” sabi ni Barredo.
Ang Philippine team ay kinabibilangan nina wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan, discus thrower Jeanette Aceveda, para swimmers Ernie Gawilan at Gary Bejino, para taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin, at powerlifter Achelle Guion.
Ang Tokyo Paralympics ay tatagal hanggang Sept. 5.
