MATIKAS na tinapos ng Philippine national women’s team ang kanilang kampanya nang madominahan ang Smart-Army, 25-16, 25-17, 25-17, sa Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Invitational Conference kahapon sa Filoil Flying V Arena.
Sa kabila na kulang sa tao, nagawa pa ring pataubin ng Nationals ang veteran-laden Giga Hitters upang makumpleto ang kanilang three-game sweep sa prestihiyosong club tourney.
Wala pa sa kalahati ng 20 players sa pool ang nagpakita para sa Nationals sa kanilang mga naunang laro, subalit nagawa pa rin nilang gapiin ang Cocolife, Cignal at Smart-Army.
“We’re happy with the performance of the team. We haven’t train yet and we’re always incomplete during games,” pahayag ni national squad Coach Shaq Delos Santos.
“We’re not so prepared for the Invitationals but we are so proud because all the players who played performed their best.”
“Hopefully, this is the start of the good relationship of the team.”
Nanguna si Jaja Santiago na may 15 points mula sa 12 kills, kabilang ang pitong excellent receptions habang nag-ambag sina Mylene Paat, MJ Phillips at Maika Ortiz ng tig-7 points para sa Nationals, na nakakuha rin ng impresibong numero kina Dindin Santiago-Manabat at CJ Rosario.
Subalit higit na kuminang si Rebecca Rivera, na itinanghal na ‘player of the game’ makaraang pangunahan ang koponan na may 23 excellent sets bukod sa 9 digs at 4 points.
Naging susi rin sa panalo si Libero Denden Lazaro na may 12 digs at 7 excellent receptions.
Sinabi ni Delos Santos na bagama’t malayo pa sila sa kanilang pinakamagandang porma para sa 18th Asian Games sa Jakarta sa Agosto, nakakuha rin sila ng maraming karanasan sa PSL.
“We learned to accept whatever we have in each games and no matter what happens. The players learned to adjust even we’re not complete,” aniya.
