Maliban sa second set, kung saan lumaban ang SGA, na nabuo lamang dalawang linggo bago ang simula ng season, nakontrol ng Angels ang laro upang ibigay kay Japanese coach Koji Tsuzurabara ang unang panalo nito.
Inamin ni Fil-Am Brooke Van Sickle, na nag-debut na may 7 points at 10 digs, na nahirapan siya sa one-hour, 16-minute match.
“I would say I felt like a real little tense, not really flowing out as well. Probably you know, first game jitters a little bit,” sabi ni Van Sickle.
“But you know, it’s so really good to able to play in the PVL with a win. The other team did play really well. I thought they block very well and they were scrappy. But it was a good win,” dagdag pa niya.
Malaki ang expectations kay Van Sickle matapos ang kanyang impresibong ipinakita sa PNVF Champions League, kung saan itinanghal na kampeon ang Petro Gazz.
Nanguna si Nicole Tiamzon, binigyan ng mas maraming playing time ni Tsuzurabara, sa scoring para sa Angels na may 15 points sa 13-on-27 spikes at napantayan ang 2,service aces ni Ivy Perez.
“Very thankful for the opportunity also to play, trying to get back on track also, playing inside the court for straight sets,” ani Tiamzon.
“We are trying to find our chemistry also, it is our first game, maraming lapses pa. Maraming errors and tomorrow we are going back to training and we will fix everything,” dagdag ng dating University of the Philippines.
Nag-ambag si Marian Buitre ng 8 points para sa PetroGazz.
Kumana si Dolly Verzosa, naglalaro sa PVL sa unang pagkakataon, ng 4 attacks, 1 block at 1 service ace na sinamahan ng 7 receptions para sa SGA. Nagtala si Jana Cane, pumasok sa laro sa second set, ng 4 kills.
