BAGO umuwi ay tinulungan ni KJ McDaniels ang NLEX na manalo ng isa pang beses na naggarantiya sa Road Warriors ng Top Four finish sa PBA Governors’ Cup elims.

Si McDaniels at ang  Road Warriors ay nagpakitang-gilas sa kanilang huling laro na magkasama sa torneo, makaraang pataubin ang Barangay Ginebra Kings, 115-103, sa krusyal na duelo nitong Biyernes sa Araneta Coliseum.

Nagbuhos si McDaniels ng 26 points at 10 boards at nakakuha ng solid support mula kina Kevin Alas, Don Trollano, Justin Chua at Kris Rosales para iangat ang Road Warriors sa 8-3 kartada.

Dahil dito ay nakasisiguro na ang koponan ng kahit tabla sa ikalawang puwesto na may kaakibat na twice-to-win incentive sa quarterfinals.

Sa kasawiang-palad ay hindi na nila makakasama si McDaniels sa susunod na round.

Si McDaniels ay nakatakdang umuwi para alagaan ang kanyang manganganak na asawa. Nasa bansa na ang kanyang kapalit na si Euro League veteran Cameron Clark ng Oklahoma University

“If there’s anything that can convince KJ to stay, we would do it but his family is really the first priority,” sabi ni NLEX coach Yeng Guiao.

“We’ll be missing a lot, I don’t know how we’ll play without him (McDaniels). We’ve gotten so used to being with him on and off the court. He’s been settling down and now he needs to go. Sayang. Pero we have to move on after KJ,” dagdag ni Guiao.

Naitala ng Road Warriors ang ika-4 na sunod na panalo habang pinutol ang two-game streak ng Gin Kings.

Kumubra si Alas ng 18 points, 10 rebounds at eight assists, nagpasabog si Rosales ng limang triples at kabuuang  17 markers, nagdagdag si Chua ng 15, kabilang ang tatlong tres habang nag-ambag si Trollano ng 14 markers.

Si JR Quinahan (10) ang ika-5 NLEX player na kumana ng double-digit output.

Nanguna para sa Ginebra si Justine Brownlee na may triple-double na 36 points, 11 assists at 10 boards.

Kumamada rin ng double-digit outputs sina Christian Standhardinger (16), Japeth Aguilar (15) at Scottie Thompson (14).
