RAMIREZ SA OLYMPIC GOLD: MAY PAG-ASA TAYO

NANINIWALA si Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez sa kakayahan ng 19 Pinoy athletes na sasabak sa Tokyo Olympics na makapag-uwi ng medalyang ginto.

“I’m so excited for the result of the hard work of the athletes, coaches, and NSAs on this journey to Tokyo Olympics in this pandemic,” wika ni Ramirez sa kanyang pagbisita sa PSC Hour program ng Radyo Pilipinas Dos

Pinasalamatan ng two-time PSC chief ang lahat ng mga atleta para sa kanilang mga sakripisyo at dedikasyon upang maabot ang kanilang pangarap na maging isang Olympian na, aniya, ay hindi madaling gawin.

“‘Yung makarating ka lang ng Olympics, parang nanalo ka na rin ng gold. It’s priceless to be in an international competition lalo na sa Olympics,” ani Ramirez.

“Naniniwala akong may medalya tayo sa Tokyo Olympics. Malamang mayroon tayong gold, silver at bronze medal kasi mayron din tayong mga baguhan na puwedeng gumawa ng surprises. Hindi naman kailangan na umabot ka ng 12 years para maka-medalya ka sa Olympics. Depende talaga sa talento, coaching, exposure, serendipity, at panahon, maraming factors yan.” dagdag ng sports agency chief.

Sinabi rin niya na ang paghahanda para sa Olympics ay hindi isang one-year affair. Ipinaliwanag niya na para sa Tokyo 2020+1 Olympics, ang preparasyon ay nagsimula noon pang  2016 Rio Olympics. Aniya, gumastos ang PSC ng P2 billion para sa mga pangangailangan ng national team mula sa panahong iyon hanggang sa kasalukuyan para sa kanilang paghahanda.

May 19 atletang Pinoy — ang second-biggest delegation na ipadadala ng bansa magmula noong 2000 Sydney Olympics — ang kakatawan sa Filipinas sa pina-kaprestihiyosong multisport event sa mundo na kinabibilangan nina  Ernest John Obiena (athletics), Carlos Yulo (gymnastics), Eumir Felix Marcial (boxing), Irish Magno (boxing), Nesthy Petecio (boxing), Carlo Paalam (boxing), Hidilyn Diaz (weightlifting), Cris Nievarez (rowing), Kurt Barbosa (taekwondo), Margielyn Didal (skateboarding), Elreen Ando (weightlifting), Jayson Valdez (shooting), Juvic Pagunsan (golf), Kiyomi Watanabe (judo), Kristina Knott (athletics), Yuka Saso (golf), Bianca Pagdanganan (golf), Luke Gebbie (swimming) at Remedy Rule (swimming).

Naniniwala rin si Ramirez na ang Olympic campaign na ito ay maaaring maging ‘uniting factor’ para sa bansa.

“Sana makatulong sa environment ng Filipinas. Hopefully, we can unite them. Sana magkaisa ang mga Pilipino dahil sa mga atleta.”

Humingi rin siya ng dasal at suporta sa mga Pinoy para sa lahat ng national athletes na sasabak sa qudrennial Games na nakatakda sa July 23-August 8.

“I encourage everyone to offer some prayers for our delegation. We need your prayers and your cheers.  Win or lose help us. Sana mamayagpag ang atletang Filipino,” ani Ramirez. CLYDE MARIANO
