NAKAPAGTALA ng paghina ang pagutang sa mga bangko noong Abril sa gitna ng nagpapatuloy na COVID-19 pandemic.

Sa preliminary data ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), lumitaw na ang outstanding loans ng universal at commercial banks, net of reverse repurchase placements (RRPs), ay bumaba ng 5.0% year-on-year.

Ito na ang ika-5 sunod na buwan na nagtala ng paghina ang matapos ang  -4.5% noong Marso, 2.7% noong Pebrero,  -2.4% noong Enero at -0.7% noong Disyembre 2020.

Ang bank lending ay bumaba ng 4.5% noong Abril habang ang outstanding loans sa non-residents ay bumagsak ng 20.2%.

“Bank lending remained weak as measures to contain the resurgence in COVID-19 cases constrained domestic economic activity and continued to dampen market sentiment,” sabi ng central bank.

Bumaba naman ang consumer loans para sa buwan ng 10.2%, na ang pangunahing dahilan ay ang patuloy na paghina sa credit card at motor vehicle loans.

“Declines were also noted in the outstanding loans to key industries such as repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-10.2%), manufacturing (-9.8%), and financial and insurance activities (-6.8%).”

Bahagya itong na-offset ng paglago sa loans sa professional, scientific, and technical activities (+106.9%), real estate activities (+2.4%), at human health and social work activities (+8.5%).

“Going forward, the BSP’s key priority is to preserve policy support to facilitate the recovery of the domestic economy,” anang central bank.

“The BSP thus stands prepared to take appropriate measures as necessary to ensure favorable financing conditions in support of domestic economic activity and market sentiment, consistent with its price and financial stability mandate,” dagdag pa nito.
