MAY sapat na supply ng koryente sa kabila ng pagsasara ng Malampaya gas field sa Oktubre basta hindi mag-kakaroon ng forced outages mula sa mga power plant, ayon kay Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella.

Sa economic forum ng Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines at ng Aboitiz Equity Ventures, sinabi ni Fuentebella na inaasahang bababa pa ang tinatayang output mula sa Malampaya sa pagitan ng 2022 at  2024.

Ani Fuentebella, ang inaasahang output mula sa Malampaya ngayong taon ay nasa 2,313 megawatts, at bababa sa  2,156 MW sa 2022, sa 1,813 MW sa 2023, at sa 1,563 MW sa 2024.

Aniya, ang gas field ay nagmamantina ng gauge pressure na 100 barg para matugunan ang araw-araw na pangangailangan ng mga consumer.

“We see the need for more investments as far as the power generation is concerned,” sabi ni Fuentebella.

Subalit sa  668-MW GNPower Dinginin na inaasahang magsisimulang mag-operate sa third quarter ng taon, sinabi ng DOE chief na ang grid ay magiging nasa “mas magandang posisyon” sa nalalabing bahagi ng taon.

“For 2022, we see the thinning of supply on Election Day and thereafter. This is why we are closely monitoring the situation and we are coming up with more policies so that we can ensure that we have more supply,” dagdag pa niya.

Tinukoy ni Fuentebella ang dalawang liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities na inaasahang magsisimulang mag-operate sa susunod na taon.

“We have the First Gen LNG facility in Batangas, which we see it’s on track to be finished by September 2022, and the floating storage unit LNG facility of AG&P that is expected to be completed by second quarter of 2022,” aniya.

Sa parehong virtual event, sinabi ni AboitizPower Corp. president and chief executive officer Emmanuel Rubio na umaasa ang kompanya na makakuha ng certificate of compliance mula sa Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) sa loob ng susunod na dalawang buwan para sa Dinginin plant Unit 1 nito.

“We are looking at starting the unit and be(ing) synchronized by August —between Aug.16 and 19— and hopefully to alleviate the supply situation when Malampaya goes on outage in October,” ani Rubio.

Para sa Unit 2 ng parehong power plant, sinabi ng AboitizPower executive na target ng kompanya na masimulan ang  commissioning sa kalagitnaan ng Marso sa susunod na taon.

Naantala, aniya, ang mga proyekto dahil sa travel restrictions dulot ng COVID-19 dahil may mga limitasyon sa pagpapasok ng technical foreign advisers para sa mga proyekto.

“As a generator, what we would like to make sure is that all our plants are running. And I’ve already said that the only time power plants are recovering their investments is when their plants are running.”. PNA
