MAHIGIT sa P106,000 ang utang ng bawat Pilipino sa paglobo ng utang ng Pilipinas sa record-high na P11.642 trillion, ayon sa economic think tank IBON Foundation Inc.
Ayon kay IBON Foundation executive director Jose Enrique ‘Sonny’ Africa, kung hahatiin ang P11.642-trillion na utang ng bansa sa 109 million population, ang bawat Pilipino ay magkakautang ng mahigit sa P106,000.
“Kung kada pamilya [nasa] P470,000, halos kalahating milyong piso,” ani Africa.
Lumobo ang utang ng national governmen sa bagong record high noong Agosto 2021, mas mataas ng P32.05 billion mula sa P11.61-trillion level noong Hulyo 2021 sa gitna ng pinaigting na pangangalap ng pondo para madagdagan ang budget ng pamahalaan sa paglaban sa COVID-19 pandemic.
Sinabi ni Africa na wala namang problema sa pag-utang ng pamahalaan para suportahan ang ekonomiya kung ang inutang ay magbibigay ng kita para mabayaran ang obligasyon.
“Nagkakaproblema kung uutang ka tapos napupunta lang sa kickback, napupunta lang sa imprastraktura na hindi naman nagagamit,” aniya.
