PARA makatiyak na walang election violence na magaganap sa panahon ng paghahain ng Certificate of Candidacy (COC), pansamantalang sinuspinde ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) sa buong bansa.
Ayon kay PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, epektibo ang suspensiyon sa PTCFOR mula hatinggabi ng Setyembre 30 hanggang alas-7 ng umaga ng Oktubre 9 bilang bahagi ng ipinatutupad na seguridad para sa walong araw na paghahain ng COC.
“This is to ensure that the filing of COCs from October 1 to October 8 will be free from firearms-related incidents and to ensure the safety of the populace,” ani Eleazar.
“Only members of the PNP, AFP and other Law Enforcement Agencies who are performing official duties and in-agency prescribed uniforms will be allowed to carry firearms,” anang heneral.
Nakabase ang pagpapatupad ng gun ban sa PNP Memorandum Circular na may pamagat na Guidelines and Procedures in Securing the Conduct of the 2022 National and Local Elections gayundin sa liham na ipinadala ng Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Nilinaw ni Eleazar na ipatutupad ang gun ban bilang bahagi ng pinaigting na kampanya kontra loose firearms gayundin para pigilan ang mga partisan armed group na posibleng maghasik ng karahasan dahil sa matinding away pulitika.
Magugunitang maaga pa lamang ay ipinag-utos na ng Chief PNP ang paghahanda sa seguridad para sa National at Local Elections para sa Mayo ng susunod na taon kung saan pinaigting ang intelligence gathering, monitoring at background check sa mga lugar na may mataas na antas ng karahasan tuwing eleksyon.
“Kasama sa paghahandang ginawa natin ay para sa filing of Certificate of Candidacy ng mga kakandidato for local and national positions,”diin ng heneral.
“I have already directed all police commanders to maximize the use of their social media accounts and coordination with the media and the communities for the dissemination of this information in order to avoid unnecessary troubles especially for responsible gun owners,” dagdag pa nito. VERLIN RUIZ
