MAGHAHARAP sina Philippine Cycling Federation president at Cavite Congressman Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino at PATAFA head Philip E. Juico para sa pemier position sa Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) na binakante ni Ricky Vargas  kamakailan.

Nahalal si Vargas bilang POC president noong 2018 at tinalo si long-serving president Jose Cojuangco.

Maglalaban naman sa POC chairmanship sina handball head Steve Hontiveros at taekwondo top honcho Robert Aventajado. Si Hontiveros, dating bowling president, ay dating secretary general ng POC.

Ang eleksiyon ay gagawin sa Hulyo 28 sa Hilton Hotel alinsunod sa direktiba ng International Olympic Committee (IOC) para resolbahin ang leadership crisis sa POC dulot  ng pagbibitiw  ni Vargas, pinuno ng Alliance Bo­xing Association of the Philippines.

Magpapadala ang IOC at Olympic Council of Asia ng kanilang kinatawan para siguruhin na magiging malinis,  maayos at credible ang special election sa POC.

“The IOC and OCA will send their representatives to see to it the election will be conducted in an orderly and credible manner,” sabi ni POC board member at Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines secretary general Robert Mananquil matapos ang dalawang oras na board meeting.

Bukod kay Mananquil, dumalo rin sa meeting sina IOC representative to the Philippines Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, POC vice president Joey Roma­santa, chess president at Surigao Congressman Prospero Pichay, Robert Bachmann ng Squash,  Jonne Go ng Canoe/Kayak, at secretary-ge­neral Charlie Ho.
