TINATAYANG nasa 12.2 milyong Pinoy ang walang trabaho sa first quarter ng taon sa pagpapatuloy ng COVID-19 pandemic, ayon sa survey ng Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Nangangahulugan ito na 25.8 percent ng adult labor force ang nananatiling walang trabaho, mas mababa ng 1.5 percent mula sa 27.3 percent o 12.7 milyong Pinoy na naitala sa fourth quarter ng nakaraang taon.

Gayunman, mas mataas pa rin ito ng 8.3 percent kumpara sa 17.5 percent na naitala noong December 2019, bago tumama ang COVID-19 crisis sa bansa, ayon sa SWS.

Ang numero ay kinabibilangan ng mga taong umalis sa kanilang trabaho, naghahanap pa rin ng trabaho, at yaong nawalan ng trabaho “due to economic circumstances beyond their control.”

Lumitaw rin sa survey na isinagawa sa pagitan ng  April 28 at May 2 na bumaba ang bilang ng mga walang trabaho sa capital region at Balance Luzon, ngunit tumaas sa Visayas at Mindanao.

Ang mga walang trabaho ay pinakamataas sa Metro Manila sa 30.8 percent hanggang noong Mayo bagaman bumaba ito ng 7 percent mula sa 37.8 percent noong nakaraang quarter.

Sumusunod ang Visayas (28.7 percent mula 19.1 percent), Balance Luzon (24.2 percent mula 32.7 percent), at Mindanao (23 percent mula 17 percent).
