SAKIT NA GBS MULA SA COVID VACCINE

KINUMPIRMA  ng Department of Health (DOH) na may posibilidad na magkaroon ng ‘neurological disorder’ na Gullain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) ang isang indibidwal na mababakunahan ng Janssen vaccine laban sa COVID-19 ngunit kaagad na nilinaw na napakaliit lamang ng naturang tiyansa o bihira lamang na mangyari ito.

Ipinaliwanag ni Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire na ang GBS ay isang ‘very rare condition’ na adverse event following immunization (AEFI) din matapos ang pagpapabakuna ngunit napakababa aniya ng posibilidad na mangyari ito.

Ayon kay Vergeire, base sa kasalukuyang datos, mas malaki pa rin ang benepisyo na makukuha ng taong magpapabakuna upang mabigyan siya ng proteksiyon laban sa COVID-19, at makaiwas sa pagkakaospital at pagkasawi.

“Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) is a very rare condition that is also noted to be an adverse event following immunization based on its occurrence AFTER vaccination. We note that the US FDA has revised the EUA of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, as reports of adverse events suggest an increased risk of GBS during the 42 days following receipts of this specific vaccine,” ani Vergeire.

“This increased risk still remains very low,” aniya pa. “Current data still shows out that the benefits of getting vaccinated and the protection from COVID-19 hospitalization and death still outweigh the risks for any reported reactions to vaccines, such as GBS.”

Nabatid na ang GBS ay isang bihirang disorder kung saan inaatake ng ‘immune system’ ng katawan ang mga ‘nerves’.

Nagdudulot ito ng panghihina, pangangatog sa ilang parte ng katawan at maaaring kumalat agad na magdudulot ng pagkaparalisa ng buong katawan.

Kaugnay nito, nanawagan din si Vergeire sa mga pasyente na iulat agad sa kanilang local vaccine operations center (LVOC) kung may nararanasang kahalintulad na sintomas ng GBS o kaya ay kumontak sa doktor.

“We call on all physicians and hospitals to ensure that for all suspected reactions to vaccines, you report these immediately to your respective epidemiology and surveillance unit so that these could be appropriately investigated and records be retrieved and assessed for causality by the pool of experts nationwide,” ayon pa sa opisyal.
