INAASAHANG maaari nang makaboto sa 2022 national and local elections ang mga persons with disabilities (PWD) at senior citizens na ang voter registrations ay na-deactivate na matapos na mabigong bumoto sa dalawang magkasunod na halalan.
Ayon kay Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, napagkasunduan ng Comelec en banc na pahintulutan ang reactivation ng registration status ng mga naturang deactivated PWDs at senior citizens.
Ani Guanzon, sa ngayon ay mayroong 6.3 milyong botante ang deactivated ngunit ang kanilang biometrics ay nananatili pa rin sa data base ng Comelec, kaya’t hindi na nila kailangan pang personal na mag-aplay para sa reactivation.
Maaari aniyang isagawa ang reactivation ngayong buwang ito sa pamamagitan ng email at panunumpa sa harap ng isang election officer sa pamamagitan ng video.
“@COMELEC En Banc approved the reactivation of PWDs and Senior citizens voters who failed to vote in 2 consecutive elections. Reactivation through email and oath before the [election] officer thru video. Wait for procedure details,” ani Guanzon sa isang tweet.
“Announcement: Reactivation of voters who failed to vote in two consecutive elections will soon be through email this month,” anunsiyo naman ni Guanzon sa isang Facebook post.
Alinsunod sa Section 27 ng Republic Act 8189 o The Voter’s Registration Act of 1996, maaaring i-deactivate ng Election Registration Board at alisin ang registration records ng isang botante na nabigong bumoto sa magkasunod na halalan.
Una nang sinabi ni Guanzon na hanggang noong Hulyo 10 ay mayroon nang naitalang 5.45 milyong registrants ang Comelec at plano pa umano nilang awtomatikong i-reactivate ang 6.3 milyon pang botante.
“As of July 10 we have around 5.45Million registrants @COMELEC. if we automatically reactivate 6.3M that would be a record,” aniya pa.
Ang voter registration sa bansa para sa 2022 polls ay nakatakda nang magtapos sa Setyembre 30, 2021.
Sinabi naman ni Guanzon na wala na silang balak na palawigin pa ang voter registration.
“Deadline : Sept. 30 NO extension @COMELEC,” tweet pa ni Guanzon.
Sa ngayon ay suspendido ang voter registration sa National Capital Region (NCR) at iba pang lugar sa bansa, na nasa ilalim ng enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) o modified ECQ (MECQ) dahil sa pagdami ng mga naitatalang kaso ng COVID-19. Ana Rosario Hernandez
