SOBEJANA BAGONG AFP CHIEF

ITINALAGA ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si Philippine Army chief Lt. General Cirilito Sobejana bilang bagong Chief of Staff ng Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Ayon kay Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, kumpiyansa ang Palasyo na magagampanan ni Sobejana ang bagong tungkulin.

“We are confident that General Sobejana will continue to modernize our military and undertake reform initiatives to make the Armed Forces truly professional in its mandate as the protector of the people and the State,” pahayag ni Roque.

“We wish General Sobejana all the best in his new tour of duty as we pray for his success,” dagdag pa nito.

Papalitan ni Sobejana si General Gilbert Gapay na magreretiro na sa Pebrero 4.

Tatagal lamang ang pamumuno ni Sobejana sa Hulyo 2021 pagsapit ng kanyang mandatory retirement sa edad na 56.

Umaasa rin sina Pangulong Duterte at iba pang taong gobyerno na magagawa nang maayos ni Sobejana ang kanyang tour of duty.

Si Sobejana ay miyembro ng Philippine Military Academy Class 1987 na ginawaran ng highest military award, ang Medal of Valor dahil sa ipinakitang kagitingan sa laban sa Abu Sayyaf terror group noong 1995.

Kasalukuyan itong commander ng Philippine Army na namuno rin sa 1st Scout Ranger Company, the Best Company in 1994; 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion, awarded as Best Battalion in 2009; 601st Infantry Brigade, named Best Brigade in 2016; and the 6th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, awarded as Best Division in 2018.

Naging commandant din si Sobejana ng Scout Ranger Training School at commander ng Civil-Military Operations Group (now Regiment), Joint Task Force Sulu, at 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division.

Gayundin, bago ito nahirang na pamunuan ang Hulbong Katihan ay nagsilbi rin muna itong Commander ng AFP Western Mindanao Command. EVELYN QUIROZ/ VERLIN RUIZ
