A SWEDISH violinist now based in the Philippines has collaborated with Filipino band The Pub Forties whose new single “Stop The World” features her violin playing.
The work of Jeanette Kamphuis, also a visual artist whose paintings are lauded by the Philippine art community, takes the spotlight in the song’s instrumental middle part and the concluding bars.
The said song was released in digital stores last Friday (August 16) and likewise made it to Spotify’s New Music Friday list.
Based in the Philippines for some years now, Jeanette paints and does solo exhibits and appears as character actress on TV commercials and teleseryes.
The Pub Forties is a band fast-gaining the reputation of being one to watch for, with its energetic live performance and laudable musical craftsmanship. The group, with key members writing articles and column feeds in various national daily broadsheets, has performed in select bars like Ka Freddie’s Bar in Morato and Minokaua in Malate. Last March they collaborated with 90s star DJ Alvaro via an online jam.
The Pub Forties, recording originals and covering classics, debuted in summer 2017 with their original “Road Rage”, an 80ish pop rock melancholia digitally released by Warner Music Philippines. A followup pop rock ditty “Drive On” also landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday Philippines in 2018.
Kamphuis also played with the group at MB Life gig held in Manila Bulletin office in Intramuros June last year. She met members of the group in one of the press conferences she covered as contributor for a magazine.
Most Pub Forties members met in media circles, each with considerable background in professional recording and live gigging. The current official members are lead vocalist Aries Espinosa, bass player and chief songwriter Yugel Losorata, guitarists Vince Borromeo and Manny Tocol, and drummer James Casas.
With five originals released in digital format, The Pub Forties fast-solidify their adult contemporary inclination, combining elements of pop, rock, and ballad in delightfully bright sonic texture. “Stop The World” can be streamed and downloaded via Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Deezer, and other popular digital stores.
Jeanette Kamphuis also contributed one of her artworks which serves as the digital single’s cover art.
Jeanette Kamphuis has a show opening today (Sunday, 25 August) 4 pm in Shangrila Plaza 3rd floor with Artistree Gallery. Please feel free to come and visit and have some cookies and coffee or a sip of her home made organic wine.
