INAASAHANG lalago at makapagbibigay ng 160,000 pang trabaho ang information technology-business process outsourcing (IT-BPO) sector ng bansa sa susunod na taon sa kabila ng COVID-19 pandemic.
Ang sektor ay tinatayang makapagtatala ng $29 billion na revenue sa 2022 habang patuloy itong magiging matatag sa gitna ng pandemya.
Sa isang virtual briefing na inorganisa ng Management Association of the Philippines, sinabi ni IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines chair Benedict Hernandez na ang sektor ay patuloy sa pagiging isang fast-growing dollar export contributor sa ekonomiya, kahit noong 2020, nang ang karamihan sa mga kompanya ay nalugi dahil sa pandemya.
“Amidst other crises that the world has seen, we have constantly been seeing growth after growth at different levels, but growth nonetheless. [The year] 2020 was a big surprise to us as the rest of the economy has to deal with a lot of contraction of the economy,” sabi ni Hernandez.
“If we do it right we can contribute that… We have the opportunity to have a much better 2021 and 2022 creating jobs and bringing dollar exports into the economy,” dagdag pa niya.
Aniya, ang revenue ng sektor noong 2020 ay nasa $26.7 billion habang ang kasalukuyang direct employment nito ay nasa 1.32 million.
Habang ang ibang mga kompanya ay nagpatupad ng cost-cutting measures at nagbawas ng mga empleyado, sinabi ni Hernandez na ang sektor ay nakapag-hire pa ng 23,000 bagong workers noong nakaraang taon.
Nagpatupad din, aniya, ito ng work-from-home arrangement para matiyak ang tuloy-tuloy na serbisyo nito.
