TeaM Energy builds school building, training center in Quezon province

A brand new school building in Pinaninding Elementary School in Padre Burgos, Quezon, was recently turned over by TeaM Energy Foundation Inc. (TEFI) to the Department of Education, Quezon District.

Undertaken through TEFI’s Project Sikap (Silid-aralan tungo sa Katuparan ng mga Pangarap), the brand new building houses two classrooms which are fully-furnished with armchairs, blackboard, teacher’s desk, electric fans, and lighting fixtures. The classrooms also have their own restrooms for the convenience of the students and teachers.

“As we slowly reopen our schools for face to face classes, TEFI realizes the importance of proper classrooms and learning equipment to provide a more conducive learning environment for teachers and students,” says Nestor Banga, Program Manager of TeaM Energy Foundation, Inc.

A Training Center for out-of-school youth and employable adults was also built by TEFI in the same town, in partnership with local organizations and the local government unit of Padre Burgos.

The TeaM Energy Training Center, built through Project SURE (Skills Upgrade to Raise Employment), is the first ever training center constructed in the third district of Quezon Province. The one-storey building will be used to conduct trainings on different technical skills like welding, electrical works, wood works, and other courses accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). “This will provide locals with skills that will give them a sustainable livelihood,” said Banga.

The land where the training center was built was personally donated by Padre Burgos Mayor Ruben Uy Diokno, while local organizations will be in charge of the management and upkeep of the training center.

TEFI is the social development arm of TeaM Energy, which operates two coal-fired power plants:  the 735 MW Pagbilao Power Station in Quezon Province and the 1,200 MW Sual Power Station in Pangasinan. It also has a 50% stake in the 420 MW Pagbilao Unit 3 Power Project in Quezon, and a 20% stake in the Ilijan natural gas project in Batangas.
