THE PHILIPPINES HOLDS BIGGEST PEARL IN THE WORLD

Puerto Princesa City – Ever wonder where the Philippines got its nickname “pearl of the orient seas”? It is because our country is home to numerous pearls. And the biggest was found in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.

It is being displayed at the Puerto Princesa City Hall and named “Pearl of Puerto Princesa (Perlas ng Puerto).

It is the largest known natural Pearl not only Philippines but in the entire in the world. It was found in the sea by a Filipino fisherman in 1996. It measures 2.2 feet (67 cm) long, 1 foot (30 cm) wide and weighs 34 kilograms (75 lbs).

Estimated value of the pearl is at US$100 million.
