AN AFRICAN proverb reverberates into our minds with the words, “It takes a village to raise a child.” During this time of pandemic became much more sensible in the life of every Filipino learner.

Raising a child in the way he should go is the toughest but noblest job every parent may experience. It may either lead to success or failure depending on the kind of nurturing, training and discipline the child went through while he was still young. Parenting a child is a lifetime commitment there is no such word as retirement and the most fulfilling job of every parent.

The School Year 2020-2021 deals with great challenges in the implementation of DepEd Basic Education Continuity Plan brought by the COVID- 19 pandemic. From planning, formulating and choosing the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCS) to be included in the curricula by the Central Office, the learning modalities chosen by the child, the delivery of Self-Learning Module (SLM) / Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) to learners who do not have access on digital platform and other ways forward in the delivery of basic education. All of this became an integral part in the learning of every individual learners hence the school and the community plays a vital role in nurturing the learning needs of every child with positive interaction and be able to grow safely in a healthy environment. Thus, I believe that it will surely contribute to the child’s holistic perspective in life and in return be able to serve the community and even the country as a whole.

The COVID-19 pandemic, however, was never a hindrance in the learning and development of every Filipino learner. The community, parent, the local government unit and other stakeholders (acts as the knowledge bearer) became the partner of our dear educators (the modern day heroes and frontliners in education) through different information drives such as Parent and Teachers Orientation may it be limited face to face or through virtual using online  platform. To ensure that learning continues amidst pandemic, being resilient by promoting mental health and spiritual wellness, and most important is shedding a light of hope that no matter situation cause by the pandemic is just but temporary with positive outlook and looking on the bright side.

The School Year 2020-2021 is almost over but it will not be completed without commencing and recognizing the time, commitment, exerted effort and sacrifices of our dear learners together with their parents who became partners of their teachers in their learning journey. They may not be able to experience the old ways of receiving awards and recognitions through face to face because DepEd prioritizes the mental health and well-being of learners. However, this milestone and meaningful moments of recognition hopefully will inspire others, reinforce good behavior and leads to learning improvement.

To all the graduates and completers of Batch 2021, congratulations!  May God bless you in your next journey. SulongEdukalidad! Para Sa Bata, Para Sa Bayan! Hats off to the future leaders and builders of the country.
