KILALA si Betong Sumaya bilang isang komedyante, actor at magaling na host at sa ilang taon niya sa showbiz, ngayon pa lamang makikita ng publiko ang isa pang katangian ni Betong ang mag-perform.
Nakahanda na si Betong para sa kanyang solo concert na gaganapin bukas, November 21 sa Music Museum na pinamagatan niyang “Try Ko Lang, Ha? Betong’s Amazing Concert.”
Sa isang panayam, he revealed that he has always been passionate about music long before he entered showbiz.
“Bata pa lamang ako sumasali na ako sa mga amateur contest, dumadayo kung saan-saan, pero consolation prizes lang, bawi sa pamasahe,” lahad ni Betong.
Pero hindi raw siya tumigil hanggang dumating ang time na while he was working as a bagger at SM, nagkaroon ng singing contest among all the SM branches at doon nag-champion siya sa kanyang winning pieces na “Kay Ganda Nang Ating Musika” at “Hahanapin Ko” kaya isa rin ito sa mga kakantahin niya sa kanyang concert.
“Sobra akong thankful and blessed dahil may bago akong ilalagay sa aking resume, isa itong pangarap na natupad dahil isa sa mga passion ko talaga ang singing.”
Maraming kuwento si Betong tungkol sa buhay niya na ikukuwento niya sa kanyang concert so we will not mention them here, watch na lang kayo.
Betong was a production assistant of GMA’s Probe team under Che Che Lazaro and admitted that it was in that program where he learned the ropes of TV production off cam, kaya hindi na siya bago sa TV kung tutuusin. He was also part of the successful “Kapusong Pinoy Studio 7 Musikalye sa Brooklyn” of GMA Pinoy TV together with fellow Kapuso stars Christian Bautista, Julie Anne San Jose, Rayver Cruz, Kyline Alcantara, Golden Cañedo, and Alden Richards.
Sa ngayon, Betong is a mainstay of the country’s longest-running gag show “Bubble Gang.”
He recalled that his first appearance was with Michael V and confessed that he forgot all his lines when he met Bitoy face to face. “Na-starstruck ako, actually, hanggang ngayon, starstruck pa rin ako sa kanya.
Betong is also thankful to Bitoy for the role of Antonietta, na dapat ay kay Michael V, pero ibinigay daw sa kanya because he wanted me to shine. Ganu’n daw si Bitoy sa kanilang lahat sa “Bubble Gang.”
“Hindi siya madamot mag-share ng talent niya,” ani Betong.
Last July, he signed up with GMA Music and his first-ever single under the label is now in the works.

As he gears up for his concert, Betong couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed for this chance to showcase what he has to offer in the local music scene, “Nagpapasalamat po ako sa GMA sa tiwala, hindi ko lubos akalain na magiging recording artist ako pero nandito na ako ngayon, abangan ninyo ang bago kong journey, hindi ko kayo bibiguin at kakaibang Betong po itong matutunghayan ninyo.”
Nagpapasalamat din siya sa overwhelming support that he got from so many Kapuso stars whom he shares his “journey” with. Asia’s Multi-media Star Alden Richards did not hesitate one bit and in fact was the first person to announce Betong’s upcoming concert. And of course, he is most excited to see what his Bubble Gang family led by Michael V., has prepared for him on stage.
“Noong malaman nila na may concert ako, lahat gustong mag-guest, pahaba nang pahaba ang listahan, kaya sabi ko, baka -pag natapos kami, ‘Unang Hirit na,’” say ni Betong.
